Vicki’s Wash and Wear: Bike. Park. Shop. Haircut.

Filed under: biking, commuter friendly businesses — Nancy Shore @ 11:56 am

Vicki Honeyman of Vicki’s Wash and Wear Haircuts shared the following with me:

I was able to get bike hoops installed on E. Ann street. When the city renovated the streetscape on my block of E. Ann, I noticed that bike hoops weren’t going to be part of the plan. I suggested including bike parking for my customers and the residents in the adjoining apartment building. Three hoops were integrated into the renovation plan. Now bicyclists can get their haircut or shop in my store and have a place to lock up!

Downtown Home and Garden Likes Bikes

Filed under: biking, commuter friendly businesses — Nancy Shore @ 9:56 am

Downtown Home and GardenI was just over at Downtown Home and Garden on Ashley Street talking with the owner, Mark Hodesh. Since he doesn’t have any bike parking out front of his store, I had always just locked my bike to a parking meter.

So I asked Mark if he’d consider putting in some bike hoops. He said no. But not because he’s anti-bike, but rather because he offers an even nicer deal for bicyclists coming to the store.

Mark allows bicyclists to bring their bikes into the store (through the drive through entrance) and lean them up against the bags of gardening supplies to the right of the drive through. As long as a bike isn’t blocking the doorway (the big opening in the picture on the left), it’s welcome inside.

I wanted to pass this along to fellow cyclists who might not know about this.

Know of any other downtown stores that are particularly welcoming to people biking, walking, busing, carpooling, etc.? Let me know by emailing nancy@annarborchamber.org or by posting a comment on this blog.
