Winter Commuting: Want to host an event?

Filed under: biking, busing, events, walking — Nancy Shore @ 1:05 pm

Hello all,

I sent this email to a bunch of folks, but also wanted to put this out on the blog:

Worst Day of the Year Ride

As you may or may not know, Wheels in Motion Cycle and Fitness is organizing this year’s Worst Day of the Year Ride (on January 27, 2008)

Winter Commuting Events for January

In addition to the Worst Day of the Year Ride, getDowntown and Wheels in Motion will be holding the following winter commuting events:

January 18th, 2008, 6pm Ann Arbor Area Chamber of Commerce (115 W. Huron, 3rd Floor): Winter Bike Maintenance workshop by Wheels in Motion.

January 18th, 2008 8pm, Arbor Brewing Company: Winter Commuting Social: Come on out and swap stories and thoughts with fellow winter bicyclists, walkers and busers and carpoolers.

We Need More Winter Commuting Events!

We are looking for more events during this month that would encourage people to think about winter commuting by bike, bus, walk, etc.

I am looking for groups and individuals to host and organize winter commuting events during the month of January.

getDowntown will provide some publicity for the event, space at our office (if you need it) as well as some funds and food (depending on how much)

Some ideas:

Someone could do a talk on the health benefits of walking and biking during the winter and other months (kind of a New Year’s Resolution tie in)?

WBWC: Could hold a panel discussion on winter walking and biking.  Or maybe do a movie night or some other fun event?

A couple of people could share stories on their winter commuting adventures at a get together or event.

Would anyone be willing to lead a bike to work day in the winter (to downtown Ann Arbor)?

Or perhaps you have some talent or skill related to winter commuting?  Let me know.

Please let me know if you are interested in being involved and/or organizing a winter commuting event.  I will contact you directly to work out the specifics.

Thanks!

Nancy
