How to deal with snow at a bus stop
From Ed Vielmetti, a blogger, techie, and bus rider (Check out his blog for even more info on snow removal)
- Wait in the cleared driveway near the bus stop
- Get off in the cleared driveway near the bus stop
- Stomp the snow off your feet on the way into the bus
- Don’t forget your mittens on the bus
- Call Donna at Victory Construction 734-657-7447 to do one-time or seasonal clearing of a stop.
- Talk to owners of properties near the stop to ask them to clear the stop
- Buy a snow scoop

Thanks Nancy!
Downtown Home and Garden had a snow scoop in stock when I walked by (polycarbonate, made in Canada sold under the Ames brand). It’s designed for use on snow or ice, so it will remove a drive or a snowbank quickly. It won’t clear a sidewalk down to bare, though, since the bottom will scrape. Cost is about $60.
Silver Bear in Laurium, MI in the UP makes a snow scoop with a wheel kit attachment that turns it into a sidewalk scraper (or perhaps a weird garden cart). I was able to get a quote from the Tractor Supply people in Saline who could order it for about $90; you may be able to order it direct for less.
I asked the folks at Jack’s Hardware if they could order something, and the guy behind the counter started looking things up in his computer system; I left him my number for when he found it.
