So on Sunday I wanted to go to the Bike Ypsi event happening in Ypsilanti. I live in Ann Arbor. My car was in the driveway. I’ve only ever driven to Ypsilanti before from my house. So I thought I might drive (takes about 25 minutes).
But it’s Curb Your Car Month! And I’m the Director of the getDowntown Program!
So I thought: Well, it’s a beautiful day . . . maybe I can try biking to Ypsi.
I checked out the Gmaps pedometer to see the mileage and told myself I wouldn’t do it if it was more than 10 miles one way (which would be about an hour long ride).
To my surprise, biking from Ann Arbor to Ypsi by way of Stadium and then Packard is only 9.5 miles!
So I did it. And I got to the Bike Ypsi event in 42 minutes.
Wow! Granted, I did bike on the sidewalk most of the way, but what a revelation!
And the best part was, I could include those miles as commute miles in the Commuter Challenge!
I guess I am just writing this because oftentimes we might think something can’t be done (like walking, biking, busing or carpooling to a certain location) when in fact, it’s quite doable. And sometimes it takes a little nudge to get us to try something new.
So now I know that I can bike to Ypsi. Which means I can contemplate more outings in Depot Town during the summer (and more sweet potato fries at Sidetrack!).
