Here’s a great thread applying the Five Stages of Grief to high gas prices.

A possible Ann Arbor downtown worker version

1. Denial: Well, it’s still much more convenient to drive to work every single day, and most people who ride buses/bikes/walk/carpool are not like me anyway.  Besides, I can grab the cheap gas in Ypsi before I get to work.

2. Anger: Why does it cost so much to park downtown!  Why doesn’t my boss give me a gas card or something!

3. Bargaining: If gas prices go down just a little bit I promise I’ll stop cursing at those smug cyclists.

4. Depression: I might as well just quit my job.  Maybe I could live off of those bread ends from Zingerman’s and Ann Arbor tap water  . . .

5. Acceptance: Fine!  I get it.  Gas prices aren’t going to go down.  Let’s check the getDowntown website.  Hmm, maybe I can start using my go!pass to ride the bus for free, or find a carpool partner, or try biking to work one day a week, or . . .
