WATS now has a blog

Filed under: advocacy, biking, busing, cool tools, rail, research — Nancy Shore @ 1:37 pm

For those of you who don’t know, the Washtenaw Area Transportation Study (WATS) does most of the transportation planning for the county.  They recently put together a Long Range Transportation Plan for 2030.  This coincides nicely with Ann Arbor’s Transportation Plan Update.

In addition to creating the Long Range Plan, WATS now has its own blog.  Here’s what you’ll find on the blog:

This blog will keep you updated on the development of the Long Range Plan and provide you with an opportunity to participate in developing the Plan.

Meeting times and locations along with other transportation related information will be posted. We’ll also work to keep content updated frequently. Click the subscribe button on the right to add our feed or enter your email address in the space provided to receive email updates when we post new information.

Night of the Living Tread, 2008!

Filed under: biking, events — Courtney M @ 10:59 am
Night of the Living Tread Straight from the inbox of Jimmy himself, here’s the scoop on this year’s Night of the Living Tread:

Here it is, the third annual Night of the Living Tread. We have some great sponsors this year. SE Bikes sent us a lager frame as well as some other swag. Manhattan Portage bags. Great products from all the sponsors. A big thank you to all supporters. Hope to see everyone who came out last year, and then some.
To those put off by the word “race”, this event is about community, not competition. So come out and see what you’ve been missing.
RSVP’s help keep printing costs down, and are appreciated.

Volunteers needed.

Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Transit in Metro Detroit = $$$

Filed under: news, rail, research — Nancy Shore @ 9:06 am

The wonderful Transit group Transit Riders United recently released a report titled “The Economic Case for Light Rail in Detroit”.  I haven’t read it yet, but will defintely put in on my reading list.

Much of the report details other major metropolitan areas that have invested in public transit and seen big results.  Why not Metro Detroit.

Check out The Economic Case for Light Rail in Detroit by clicking here.
