Track Your NoMo Commute With Others Around the World
I was on the WBWC email group today and I saw a link to a new social networking site called World Commute.
The site allows you to log on and track your non-motorized commute (bike, walk, run, skate, etc). You can then see the environmental, monetary, and health benefits of your commute choice and compare your stats to people all over the world.
The site also has tons of tips on commuting the nomo way.
While it’s not yet up, there is also a section on the site for groups. It will be interesting to see what this looks like when it’s up there.
The site has some of the features I think make the Commuter Challenge so special, such as updated stats and comparisons between you and others.
Something the Commuter Challenge has that I don’t yet see on this site is incentives to continue to log your miles. Since the Commuter Challenge only happens once a year, I think people are more likely to use it. Will people really be motivated to continue to log their miles into the foreseeable future? We’ll have to see what they decide to do.
One thing I will be interested to see is if World Commute sends you reminders to log your commute. That might also help keep the motivation up.
Either way, it’s a pretty slick looking site. We’ll see how it goes.
