Bad commuter–no cookie.
This blog post comes from Commuter Challenge Ambassador Sarah S. Sarah works at the UM in Dermatology Administration.
I missed the bus on my very first day of kindergarten. Five years old and feeling like a failure, my mother gave me the last-minute ride of shame while I stewed in the back seat. I’d have to wait until Tuesday to see the inside of school bus, something that was inexplicably important to me at the time.
This may have been my first lesson that life is never how you expect it to be.
So it is appropos that, after being named an Ambassador of the Commuter Challenge (cake, I thought, since my daily commute is entirely sustainable), I have managed to blow it on the Day 2. Dazed, sleepy, and coffee-splashed from running with an open thermos, I watched my bus disappear around the corner.
I grumpily collected my keys and resolved to run home from work at least two days this month. This might not be kindergarten, but I’m still hoping there might be extra-credit.
