You can even sign up to get emails from the City about Lane Closures and Construction.  That’s pretty cool.

Commuter Challenge Success Story 7: Solveig gets comfortable with her commute

Filed under: Commuter Challenge, biking — Nancy Shore @ 1:46 pm

This Commuter Challenge Success Story is from Solveig over at the US EPA.  As Solveig’s Story illustrates, the Challenge is both a great way to start using sustainable transportation as well as a great way to get more confortable with what you’re already doing:

During last year’s Commuter Challenge, Solveig got more comfortable using alternative transportation like biking and carpooling.  “After the commuter challenge ended,” Solveig says, “I continued biking to work throughout the summer and into the fall. (I stopped biking when it became too cold for me); but I continued car-pooling through the winter.”

This year, Solveig is “excited to try and improve on my biking commute times as well as trying some alternative biking routes that my co-workers have suggested to me.”

Commuting by foot

Filed under: Citizen Post,Commuter Challenge,Your commute options,walking — ChristineS @ 9:00 am

This Commuter Challenge Blog Post comes from Christine, an employee with the City of Ann Arbor:

Most people choose a faster mode for commuting but I find walking gets me primed for the day ahead. I can review what’s on my agenda while whittling off those (pounds of chocolate) I accumulated during our long, cold Winter.

Today I noticed that the daffodils are on the wane and the tulips are in their full glory. All the trees have burst into bloom with lots of pink, white and violet blossoms. The best part of my commute is being able to walk past the stands of lilac that are spreading their heavenly scent. (talk about a “scents”ual experience)

After work I mosey home when the temperature is at it’s most pleasant.

Yesterday, I got to witness Gracie, the 9 year old. hula-hoop extraordinaire, practicing her hooping outside of her mom’s store (ArtSpoken). Walking keeps me in shape, in touch with my neighbors and the fruits of the earth. Try it! You might like it.
