Walk, Talk and Chalk with WBWC: May 19, 6:30pm, Downtown A2

Filed under: Commuter Challenge, events, walking — Nancy Shore @ 2:12 pm

How did the pedestrian cross the road?  Come help us solve this riddle at the upcoming “Walk, Talk and Chalk”
event!

In an effort to engage local walkers in a discussion around the issue of walkability, WBWC is hosting a walk through the Old West Side and downtown Ann Arbor. WBWC hopes this event will draw together walkers from around Ann Arbor to discuss barriers to walkability in Ann Arbor that they’ve encountered. Key points from the meeting will be recorded in sidewalk chalk, photographed for posterity and then shared with policy makers and city staff at WBWC’s Pedestrian Forum in September.

The “Walk, Talk, and Chalk” will begin in front of Sweetwater’s Café at 123 W. Washington Street in downtown Ann Arbor on Tuesday, May 19th at 6:30pm. The rain date is Tuesday, May 26th.

Commuter Challenge Success Story: Ann Arbor Civic Theater Gets into the Act

Filed under: Commuter Challenge, biking, busing, walking — Nancy Shore @ 11:08 am

I just received a wonderful success story from Suzi Peterson, Managing Director at the Ann Arbor Civic Theater in downtown Ann Arbor.  Suzi’s story shows how the Commuter Challenge not only encourages people to try sustainable transportation for the first, it also gives people the chance to step up what they are already doing.

Here’s what Suzi has to say:

We are an office of only 3 people. Two of us are able to do the Commuter Challenge (our 3rd employee lives where there is no bus route and is too far for her to walk etc) We are having a blast doing it! Who knew we were competitive–we can’t wait to get in and log our commute. I typically bus/walk/bike to work 2 times a week but I’ve really stepped it up this month. I feel great and am appreciating my beautiful town even more this spring while working home from work.
